The Peninsula Istanbul, situated along the historic Karaköy waterfront as a centerpiece of the Galataport project, consists of four distinct buildings that combine heritage restoration with contemporary design. Opened in February 2023 following a seven-year project that began in 2016, the hotel incorporates three significant monuments: the 1940s Bauhaus-style Karaköy Passenger Terminal designed by Rebii Gorbon, the early 20th-century Çinili Han, which is among Turkey’s oldest reinforced concrete structures, and the historic Merkez Han. The architectural transformation was led by a collaborative team including Turgut Alton Mimarlık, while the interiors were curated by acclaimed designer Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu to blend Byzantine and Ottoman motifs with modern luxury. Complemented by a lush landscape designed by Enzo Enea and a fourth modern wing, the complex serves as a sophisticated urban retreat that revitalizes Istanbul’s maritime history.
