Galatasaray High School, located on the historic Istiklal Avenue in Istanbul, stands as a premier educational institution with roots dating back to 1481 when Sultan Bayezid II established it as a training school for the imperial palace. The current monumental building was designed by the architect Giacomo Leoni and completed in 1868 during a period of modernization under Sultan Abdülaziz, transitioning the school into the prestigious Mekteb-i Sultani. Architecturally, the structure reflects the 19th-century eclectic style, featuring a grand neoclassical facade and an iconic ceremonial gate that has become a symbol of the Beyoğlu district. Throughout its long history, the building has served various roles, including a medical school and a military barracks, before solidifying its legacy as a bridge between Ottoman traditions and Western educational standards.
