The Gazanfer Ağa Complex, situated in the Zeyrek district adjacent to the Valens Aqueduct, was established in the late 16th century by the Chief White Eunuch Gazanfer Ağa during the era of Sultan Mehmed III. Designed by Mimar Davud Ağa, the successor to the legendary Sinan, the complex features a harmonious arrangement of a madrasa, a mausoleum, and a sebil that reflects the refined aesthetics of classical Ottoman architecture. The madrasa is centered around a porticoed courtyard that once provided a serene environment for students, while the polygonal tomb stands as a testament to the founder’s high status within the imperial court. Throughout its history, the building has transitioned through various roles, eventually becoming home to the Cartoon and Humor Museum, yet it remains a critical architectural link to Istanbul’s 16th-century administrative and educational life.
