Galataport represents a sophisticated synthesis of Istanbul’s maritime heritage and avant-garde urban design, revitalizing a historic 1.2-kilometer stretch of the Karaköy coastline that had been closed to public access for nearly two centuries. Historically functioning as the city’s primary gateway for international travelers, the project meticulously restores landmark structures like the 1911 Paket Postanesi while integrating them into a modern social hub. Architecturally, the development is world-renowned for its innovative engineering, specifically the implementation of the first underground cruise terminal in the world, which utilizes a unique hydraulic hatch system to keep the Bosphorus promenade accessible to pedestrians even during ship operations. By blending the industrial legacy of the former Salıpazarı Port with contemporary glass and steel aesthetics, the project creates a seamless transition between the historic fabric of Beyoğlu and the futuristic vision of a sustainable, public-centric waterfront.
