Zorlu Center, designed by Emre Arolat Architecture and completed in 2014, is a significant mixed-use development in Istanbul that serves as a bridge between the city center and the Maslak business district. The project is characterized by its innovative topographical approach, utilizing a reconstructed ground shell that acts as an in-between layer to house various functions, including a large public square, an interior piazza with retail connections, and a high-altitude urban balcony with Bosphorus views. The complex integrates a massive performance arts center, terrace residences nested within the shell, and four distinct towers comprising luxury residences and the Raffles Hotel. By prioritizing public motivations and social interaction over the gleaming architectural trends of the modern world, the design seeks to create a nuanced dialogue between private and public spaces while avoiding the traditional habits of the society of spectacle.
