The Beşiktaş Stadium, constructed on the site of the historic İnönü Stadium across from Dolmabahçe Palace, represents a sophisticated balance between modern UEFA standards and deep respect for Istanbul’s urban memory. Designed with a capacity of 41,903, the stadium’s elliptical form and barcode-style facade draw inspiration from historical references such as the Hippodrome’s Sphendone and the colonnades of Dolmabahçe. To minimize its impact on the iconic city silhouette, the structure is situated within a valley basin partially below sea level and features a lightweight, translucent PTFE cable roof often described as its fifth facade. A significant aspect of the project is the preservation and restoration of the original southern walls and towers, which now serve as a museum to maintain the site’s historical continuity. Beyond its architectural form, the arena serves as a high-tech multi-purpose hub equipped with hybrid grass technology, C90 sightlines for optimal viewing, and advanced digital infrastructure, ensuring that the legendary atmosphere of its predecessor is carried into the future.
