The Legacy Ottoman Hotel, originally known as the Fourth Vakıf Han, represents a monumental peak of the First National Architecture Movement, designed by the visionary Turkish architect Mimar Kemaleddin Bey. Commissioned to serve as a prestigious office complex in the Eminönü district, its construction began in 1912 but was only finalized in 1926 due to the interruptions of the Balkan Wars and World War I. The building is architecturally significant for its early use of a steel frame structure, masterfully concealed behind a neoclassical facade that features alternating stone masonry, pointed arches, and distinctive corner domes that echo Ottoman tradition. Having witnessed various historical shifts, including its use as the Caserne Victor for French occupying forces and later as the home of the Istanbul Stock Exchange, the structure underwent a comprehensive restoration in the early 2000s to open as a luxury hotel in 2006, preserving its status as a vital landmark of Istanbul’s early republican urban landscape.
