The relocation of Karaköy Güllüoğlu to the early 20th-century Sağlıkhan building marks a sophisticated architectural evolution for the 75-year-old brand, transitioning from its long-standing location under a multi-storey car park into a structure that echoes the intricate urban passage culture of the district. The project revitalizes a historical warehouse parcel by opening the ground floor to the repaired and exposed timber trusses of the roof, creating a holistic volume that integrates a modernist concrete facade with a deep, forty-meter interior passage defined by atypical arches and continuous mirrors that expand the spatial perception. By utilizing a single-flight staircase as a central spine and incorporating functional sub-spaces for show kitchens and workshops, the design harmonizes traditional materials like marble and wood with the brand’s contemporary research and development identity. This rehabilitation not only preserves a turn-of-the-century landmark identified in Pervititch maps but also establishes a dynamic new home that mirrors the spatial logic of historic Karaköy passages like Ömer Abed Han, ensuring the brand’s artisanal legacy remains rooted in its original neighborhood while embracing a modern architectural framework.
