Completed in 1931, the Mecidiyekoy Liqueur and Cognac Factory represents a landmark of Early Republican industrial modernism in Turkey. It was designed by the celebrated French architect Robert Mallet-Stevens, marking his only industrial commission outside of France and reflecting the era’s commitment to rationalist aesthetics. The architectural composition is defined by its horizontal emphasis, clean geometric volumes, and a functionalist design language that aligned with the young Republic’s vision of progress. Following decades of neglect and its subsequent demolition in 2012, the structure was later reconstructed by Emre Arolat Architecture to honor the original design intent. Now functioning as a prominent cultural and arts venue, the building continues to serve as a significant witness to Istanbul’s transition into a modern urban center.
